ORUBEBE'S HIRED CROWD TURNS AGAINST HIM – SAHARA REPORTERS GOT IT WRONG
“Like all Technology, social media is neutral but is best put to work in the service of building a better world” ~ Simon Mainwaring
In
Politics, it not strange to be called names and mudslinging is expected from
all quarters with the press acting as the cannon folder. Politicians will use whatever they can
use against perceived stronger opponents. It is on this note that it was not
surprising to read Sahara Reporters Claim that “Orubebe’s Hired Crowd Turns
Against Him”
The report began with a mocking claim by a protester “Why can’t
he pay us common two hundred Naira that he said he will pay?” one of the
protesters stated, admitting that he was recruited from Ogwashi Uku to pose as
a supporter of the former minister.
Surprisingly the reporter did not see the deliberate lie in the
claim and Sahara Reporters perhaps in their quest for traffic that the
name Orubebe will generate went on to publish the blatant fabrications without
making any effort to confirm from the Delta Peoples Forum (DPF) organizers of
the event. How could someone travel from Ogwashi uku to Asaba for Two Hundred
Naira?
For the benefit of doubt Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe has the
largest voluntary followers in this race. The bulk of his supporters are
Jobless and He has always ensured that in every gathering meal is provided as
well as mobilization. The reporter can visit Ogbobagbene first Friday of Every
Month and witness firsthand the Generosity of this rare breed of a Politician
as Thousands will eat before the All Night Prayers and this he had done for over Four
Years.
The Media aid to Elder Orubebe, Barr. Augusta Akusu-Ossai made the clarification that because of the crowd that stormed the DPF office even before the end of the event, the organizers decided to get the mobilization through the coordinators in the Local Government Areas. And that DPF will never fail to do the usual that many have come to Know Elder Orubebe by. A phone call from this biased or more appropriately hired reporter would have put the matter to rest, but would that please his benefactors?
The report went on the say; “The visibly angry protesters, who
included women, men and the youths, rained curses
on Mr. Orubebe, describing him as fraudster who is not
fit to govern the state. They also accused him of looting funds
during his tenure as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.”
This is the prove that the so called protest was
staged managed by detractors of the Man who is set to take Delta State to
greater height and make her people proud. The so called protesters knew that
Elder Orubebe was not fit to rule Delta State but agreed to be mobilized to the
venue, They knew he looted funds as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, yet they
agreed to come out for him for a mere Two Hundred or Five Hundred Naira
from the nooks and crannies of the State according to the report. Is that not contradictory Sahara Reporters?
Sahara have built a reputation for breaking news and have
demonstrated integrity in their reportage in the past, they should not allow
the quest for traffic or sentiment or inducement to blind them to the tenet of
fair reporting. Many aspirants have declared before Elder Orubebe, why is his
declaration attracting opprobrium? Because the Pretenders know that his match to Unity House Asaba is unstoppable, so they use any medium to try to discredit him but as a aid of Elder
Orubebe said after reading the Sahara report “Their Hate only makes Orubebe stronger”
