YOUR BEST IS YET TO COME: FOCUS
The story is
told of a young man who went to a successful man to learn the secret of
success. The successful man asked the young man to meet him by the Beach the
next morning. Ready to learn the Lessons of Success the Young man came the next
morning dressed in suit and equipped with pen and jotter. He was however surprised
to meet the successful man dressed only in a swimming trunk.
The Rich Man
asked the Young man; are you ready for the lesson? The young man replied, Yes
Sir. The Successful man took some steps towards the water and asked the young
man to follow him into the River. Puzzled but determined to learn the young man
went with him into the River, they both went in until the young man had his
head almost under the water. The successful man with the benefit of his height
held the young man under the water for a while until the young man begin to
kick and struggle for survival, he pulled him up and the following dialogue
ensured:
Successful man: When you were under the water, what was the only thing that occupied your mind?
Young man:
Breath Sir.
Successful man:
If you want success the way you desired to breath, you will succeed.
Morale of
the story: if you focus on one thing, you will always achieve it.
As Tony
Robbins pointed out succinctly “One reason so few of us achieve what we truly
want is that we never direct our FOCUS; we never concentrate our power. Most people
dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular”
You must
have heard the phrase “Jack of all trade and master of none” there are no all-rounders in life, know what you are good at, focus on it and success will naturally
follow.
We have in
our brains what scientists call “Reticular Activating System” RAS which is like
a filter that lets in information that we need, and filter out information we don’t
need per time. What that means is that our brain only registers what matters to
us based on our goals, needs, interest and desires. Do you realize when you
make up your mind to buy a particular brand of car; you notice more of that
brand of car on the road. That is the power of focus because where focus goes,
energy follows.
The most
important thing is for you to decide what you want, focus on it and be rest
assured that you will accomplish it with time. The Apostle Paul said “No, dear brothers and sisters, I
have not achieved it, but I FOCUS on this one thing: forgetting the past and
looking forward to what lies ahead,” ~ Philippians 3:13 {New Living
Translation} emphasis mine. Apostle Paul was not part of the 12 Disciples that Jesus called and trained and there is no record that he met Jesus while he physically walked the earth
but out of the Twenty - Seven (27) Books in the New Testament, the man of
intense focus wrote minimum Thirteen (13) of them.
An example
of a man of intense Focus in our contemporary times is Albert Einstein March
14, 1879 to April 18, 1955, A German-born Theoretical Physicist. He developed
the general Theory of Relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics.
November 17,
1952 he was offered the Presidency of the Nation of Israel because he was a
Jew, Einstein declined, saying “Scientific problems are more familiar to me;
I lacked the natural aptitude and experience to deal properly with people to do
the job.” Focus.
“Successful people maintain
a positive FOCUS in life no matter what is going on around them. They stay
focused on their past successes rather than their failures, and on the next
action step they need to take to get them closer to the fulfillment of their
goals rather than all the other distractions that life presents to them.” ~ Jack Canfield
You have a Goal, a Desire, a Mission, whatever it is with Faith in God and an intense focus, success is a few steps away. Keep on Keeping on, Life is filled with tremendous possibilities.
