PRESIDENT BUHARI - WILL THE OVATION END BEFORE IT BEGINS
It’s too early to call and I pray sincerely that
circumstances prove me wrong but I have maintained and that conviction was reinforced when I read Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Gumi’s open
letter to Gen. Mohammadu Buhari as he was addressed then (Now President) that “The people who
forced him out of Political retirement did not do so in the interest of Nigeria.”
The All Progressive Congress (APC) was a Party born out of
the desire of several interest groups to wrestle power from the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) and these interest groups were so desperate they were ready to
form a parallel Government if their candidate lost the Election. In their desperation, they would have rather have our Country go to War or thrown into some sort of conflagration
for them to achieve their aim. But God in His Infinite Mercy spared Nigeria
from the Path of War.
From the crisis in the National Assembly - the Leadership tussle that clearly shows, Personal above National interest that had made even those who once cheered when they were gate jumping to secure their Personal Kingdoms to think again.
“Bad officials are elected by
Good Citizens, who do not vote”
~ George Jean Nathan. How true, how many Nigerians actually voted?
Add that to the inability of
the Ruling Party to draw up a Ministerial List, the constant blaming of
the previous Government for its predicament to the inability of many States to
pay wages that the APC just wanted Power for Power sake and was not prepared
for the awesome responsibility of Governance and that many of them actually
were praying for War. Posers; How do you explain a situation were States keep blaming the Previous Administration for their financial woes, when all their Allocations were released as at when due? How can a Party
that was ready to form a Parallel Government, not be able to draw up a
Ministerial List almost one Month after?
POLITICS OF PVC COLLECTION:
Professor Attahiru Jega and his Independent Electoral
Commission should enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the Smooth
distribution of PVC’s in the Northern Part of Nigeria. The Northern part of
Nigeria is reportedly the most backward in terms of Education and Poverty, add
that to the havoc created in the region by the dreaded Boko Haram sect that had many analyst thinking it will be difficult to get PVC’s to them in
time for the Elections but Prof. Jega proved them all wrong. Special interest was that of the three States that were under Emergency Rule recorded high turnout of
PVC collections; Borno the Home of Terror – 72.79%, Adamawa 88.62% and Yobe 74.95% compare that to a Peaceful, more enlightened Lagos State 65.25% and
you will agree with me Jega is a Genius
The main trust of Dr. Gumi’s letter borders on our Presidents inability
to control the men under him. Dr. Ahmed Gumi had said “Sir, your weakness is
not in your past impeccable record of accountability of public wealth and the
fight against corruption and indiscipline. Your weakness is in your inability
to control men compounded further by your strict and obsessive rejection of
corruption”
If President Buhari was adjudged weak in controlling the men under
him as a younger man, how much more now when in his own admission he can do
very little because of his age? Dr. Gumi called our President’s fight against
Corruption as an “Obsessive rejection of corruption” indeed it’s an obsession,
all we have heard from the seat of Power is “Buhari traces looted funds to UK,
Switzerland, others” “Buhari talks tough, vows to recover billions of dollars
stolen…..” “Buhari blows hot, vows to recover all stolen funds” the question is
will the Nation stand still and wait for the stolen wealth to be recovered
before we move forward? I stand to be corrected but I have always insisted “Corruption
is not our problem but Greed” it was Professor Wole Soyinka who said “We have
enough for our Needs, but not enough for our Greed” taming the Greed in the
average Nigerian will take much more than a touted war on corruption”
“Sir, let me say right away that the goodwill
garnered during your campaigns and the jubilation that heralded your recent
victory are fast fading and you need to, as a matter of urgency, convince the
people of Nigeria that you’re now ready to hit the ground running.” ~ Dele
Momodu
Bob
Dee in his incisive memo as he tagged it made the above comment, If Dele Momodu
was a PDP faithful many would have accused him of starting a media war,
especially the Buharidist who “See No Evil, Hear No Evil and Say No Evil about
PMB.” They see any observations about the way PMB has
managed the Country in his almost one Month in Office as attacking Mr.
President or that it is too early to say anything about PMB and his
Government. They are conveniently oblivious of the time worn saying that “the
way you begin the day, determines the way you are going to end it” am not sure
the Buharidist will even see Bob Dee’s Memo for what it is; a wakeup call.
No sane Nigerian will Pray for PMB to fail, we all have a collective stake in the Nigerian Project. I urge the Buharidist to read Dele Momodu's memo with an Open Mind.I also believe that not all Buharidist are on the same page with our Respected Lai Mohammed who insist "Buhari has surpassed Jonathan's achievements in One Month" like St. Augustine said "The Truth is like a Lion, you don't have to defend it, let it loose. It will defend itself" Has Buhari Surpassed Jonathan's achievements in one Month? Dele Momodu don't believe so, what about you?
