Hon. Sagbegha Korokorosei who was elected as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Burutu, Saturday 10th March, 2012 in a Congress that was adjudged to be free and fair but whose election was contested by a section of the Party in the Council Area who rather than have him sworn in went ahead to constitute another Executive.

Peace Loving and Law abiding, Hon. Korokorosei went to Court. The long Court battle which lasted over two years was finally decided in favour of Hon. Korokorosei in a landmark Judgment in Suit No: FHC/WR/CS/189/2013 and presiding over by Hon. Justice M. Shitu Abubakar of the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Warri Judicial Division Holden in Warri (see a Judgment that was never obeyed http://tinyurl.com/ole6u29).

In a recent twist to the tale of an elected chairman who never assumed office, Hon. Korokorosei is in possession of a letter written from the National Secretariat of the PDP to the State Executive led by Our Amiable Chairman Barr. Chief Peter Nwaoboshi asking that he (Korokorosei) be sworn in and that letter too was not obeyed.

One would have expected that Hon. Korokorosei will start another battle to reclaim his mandate in the light of the support from the National secretariat, but the man of rare political qualities, called a meeting of Leaders of the Party under his faction 15th August, 2014 and announced that he is giving up the struggle for Peace to reign in Burutu.

A surprise move that took many of the Leaders present unawares, Korokorosei informed the gathering in an emotion laden voice that “There is a time to fight and there is a time for peace, this is the time for Peace my brothers and sisters” he stressed that he came to the conclusion upon reading of dissent from many Local Government Areas by aggrieved persons who disagreed with the outcome of the recent Councillorship and Chairmanship Primaries in the State in Newspapers some even threatening violence. He will not want Burutu LGA to tow that same line.

Recounting the risk many had taken, travelling to Abuja on several occasions, often in large delegation and expenses incurred in his quest to reclaim his mandate before the eventual victory in the Court. The Court Judgment and Order ought to have settled the dispute but rather the powers that be choose to disobey the Court Order. He philosophized that Power only comes from the Almighty and no amount of struggle will make it happen except God wills it to be so.


Addressing the Chairmanship and Councillorship Aspirants under his faction who all lost out because of the power tussle, he urged them to see their loss as a sacrifice for Democracy to thrive in Burutu LGA, Delta State and Nigeria general. He told the gathering that all efforts will be made to integrate both factions as we are first brothers and sisters from the same Party. “We are All Burutu Sons and Daughters” he concluded.

Responding many in the gathering thanked Hon. Korokorosei for his courage stating that it takes only a man with a big heart to take the kind of decision he is taking. They also pledged to work with the Kenneth Ogeibiri led Executive of the PDP in the Council Area with the resolve to campaign and mobilize their followers  to vote massively for PDP in the forthcoming Council Polls and subsequent elections.
