THE BURDEN OF LEADERSHIP - CHIEF EBIKEME CLARK
THE
TASK BEFORE CHIEF EBIKEME CLARK
The Peoples Democratic Party in Burutu LGA has
spoken and Ebikeme Clark is the Flag bearer for the upcoming Council Polls. We
congratulate Ebikeme Clark and urge him to get to work even before the polls as
Burutu is a PDP Council Area.
The first Task before Ebikeme Clark is to unify the
Party at the Council Area. We will be playing the Ostrich, if we assume all is
well with the PDP in Burutu. As a matter of urgency, Chief Ebikeme Clark should
consult widely and bring the PDP under one umbrella as a divided PDP in Burutu
will not benefit anyone.
Second Task: Chief Ebikeme Clark should start drawing
up his Policy Trust for the Council Area. Keying into the Three Point Agenda of
His Excellency will help. Peace and Security, Infrastructure and Human Capital
Development. Agreed there is very little a Council Boss can do given the peculiar
terrain in terms of Infrastructural Development, Chief Ebikeme Clark can count
on the Goodwill he had enjoyed that saw him emerging as the PDP flag bearer to
attract development to the Area from the Federal/ State Governments, Government
Ministries and Agencies.
On Peace and Security; he will do well to follow the
laudable steps so far taken by His Excellency to ensure that the Peace we now
enjoy in the Council Area is sustained and enhanced. On Human Capital Development
Chief Ebikeme Clark will also like to follow the trend adopted by the State
Government. However, he needs to put on his thinking cap and fashion out ways
to get our children, many of whom are out of school back to school.
He need to also pursue vigorously various Skill
Development Programs to help the Thousands of unemployed youths to develop
skills that will not only sustain them but make them employers of labor, whilst
doing his best to get many gainfully employed; To achieve this, he needs to
build a database of all employable youths and their areas of specialization,
then take stock of all companies operating in and around the Council Area to
find out areas of cooperation that will ease the unemployment scourge. A strong
stand on the Local Content Law will give the Council Area an edge in securing
employment for some.
He must be determined to ensure that every quota
given to the Council Area in terms of Recruitment into the Military and Paramilitary Forces are filled without fail.
He needs to urgently look at a Burutu without Oil. Our
Nation is currently facing an Oil glut and many analysts are of the opinion
that the glut may continue, besides Oil is a Natural Resource which many
believe will be exhausted in the not too distant future. Can Burutu survive
without Oil? He needs to lay a strong foundation for a Burutu beyond Oil.
The challenges facing Chief Ebikeme Clark are huge
but they are by no means insurmountable. Many say he is a chip off the old
block and that the Young Clark is ready to carry on the rich legacy of his
Father. It was Confucius who said “Old age is good and pleasant. You are gently
shouldered off the stage, but then you are given such a comfortable front stall
as spectator” he cannot afford to fail destiny; he cannot afford to fail his
father on whose honor he had been so entrusted with this onerous task of
piloting the affairs of the Council Area
To carry on the administration of Burutu from the standpoint of Business as usual will be detrimental to the development of the
Council Area and it will be a big dent on his political future.
