60 Years After Boro: The Ijaw Nation Cannot Afford a Leadership Vacuum

The indefinite postponement of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) elections has placed our nation at a perilous crossroads. Whatever the internal bottlenecks may be, the leadership must realize that the Ijaw people are in no mood for excuses. We are hungry for direction, thirsty for purpose, and tired of administrative inertia.

It is a painful irony that exactly 60 years after Major Isaac Adaka Boro led the 12-Day Revolution to demand a future for our people, we are stalling on the basic democratic process of choosing our own leaders. While the average Ijaw citizen grapples with hunger and a lack of clear regional strategy, our electoral body remains deadlocked.

I join well-meaning citizens in urging the electoral body to resolve these issues immediately. We need elections, and we need the swearing-in of a new executive. The Ijaw Nation MUST design and pursue an all-embracing developmental roadmap with vigor.

Let us build a nation that the late Boro—and the generations coming after us—will be proud of. Time is of the essence.
