Much Ado About a Surveillance Contract
PIPELINE SECURITY, ECONOMIC STABILITY & NATIONAL INTEREST
This might be unpopular… but it needs to be said
Nigeria’s oil sector has long battled crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and systemic revenue loss. Before 2022, the situation was alarming—
Over 47 pipeline bombings recorded in a single year
Billions of dollars lost annually
Youth unemployment in host communities reaching over 60%
Today, a different narrative is emerging.
Through the intervention of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, Nigeria has adopted a community-driven security model that is delivering measurable outcomes. Hailed globally as a success story as it's structured and very effective unlike other models adopted in Irag, Mexico, DR Congo and South Sudan
Reports indicate:
Engagement of thousands of local contractors and operatives
Creation of over 200,000 direct and indirect jobs across the Niger Delta
Significant reduction in illegal bunkering activities
Improved oil production and revenue recovery
A CRITICAL REALITY
This is no longer just a contract ~ it is a stabilization framework.
The Niger Delta today is not only calmer, it is more economically active because people who once had no options now have structured engagement.
A WORD OF CAUTION
We must be careful.
Dismantling or undermining this system without a viable alternative could:
Displace hundreds of thousands of livelihoods
Reignite illegal activities
Reverse the gains already recorded
And the truth is:
Even the loudest critics may not be prepared for the consequences of such a reversal.
THE WAY FORWARD
Constructive criticism is necessary—but so is responsibility.
Let us:
Strengthen the model
Improve transparency
Expand inclusion
But most importantly, let us support what is working while refining it.
For the Niger Delta.
For economic stability.
For Nigeria’s future.
BOTTOM LINE:
THE NIGER DELTA
CANNOT AFFORD TO GO BACK 🇳🇬
