YOU AND YOUR STAFF: THE BARRACK MENTALITY

Many entrepreneurs have the misconception that they are doing the employee a Favour. They have the Master/Slave ideology about the workforce with a barrack mentality treatment of staff - Soldier go, Soldier come, barrack remains

In as much as there is massive unemployment and many are willing to swallow any negative attitude from their employers simply to have food on the table, no entrepreneur should be carried away with the believe that this is the best way to run a business. Besides, you are not getting the best out of your staff. Remember, we have pointed out that your staff are your greatest asset and they are at their optimum level of productivity when they are happy with the job.

A symbiotic relationship mentality is the best for any organization.Today, we like to prompt you to have a rethink and probably a change of mind about how you relate/treat your workforce

I read about a Frenchman called R.G. Le Tourneau. He was a mechanic who had only primary school education. At the age of 30, his workshop came to a close. He kept struggling till finally, he became bankrupt at age 44. For many that would have been the end of the story, case closed.

How did this man that was bankrupt at age 44 ended up with about 299 Inventions to his name? His inventions includes; the Bulldozer, Scrappers of all sorts, Dredgers, Portable Cranes, Rollers, Dump Wagons, Bridge Spans, Logging equipment, Mobile Sea Platforms for oil exploration, The Electric Wheel and Many more. He is credited to have built 70% of the Heavy Earth Moving Equipment used by the Allied Forces in World War 11. How did he bounce back?

In his book "Mover of Men and Mountain" R.G. Le Tourneau said "At the age of thirty, my garage had failed and I was 5,000 dollars in debt. At the of forty four, I leaned heavily on contracts that my EMPLOYEES (with more faith in me than I had in myself) took up collection to get me back on my feet. .........."
He developed a symbiotic relationship with his employees and they were willing to help him get back on his feet and what a comeback that was

Developing a symbiotic relationship with the workforce takes effort, takes humbling yourself, knowing that no condition is permanent and an attitude of "Do unto others, what you will have them do unto you" it means practically turning the table around daily, viewing yourself from their perspective. And it begins with the Question "What does my employees want?"
