YOU AND YOUR STAFF: STAFF EXPECTATIONS 2
Many an entrepreneur have the wrong mindset that pitching the Staffs one against the other is the best way to run the Business. This misconception and application is fueled by the believe that pitched one against the other, they will do everything possible to be in the good books of the Boss and act as a watchdog for management.
This worked during the Colonial period and Slave trade era. A black man is elevated to the status of a VIP, so he sees himself as one that has escaped the regours of daily hussles with his brethren and is willing to do anything and everything to ensure the subjugation of his own. The British called it divide and rule.
The Business of the 21st Century is builth on Human Relations - the advent and success of Multi Level Markets and social media attest to this. It's not surprising therefore that the Second Expectation of Staff is; "TRUST BETWEEN EMPLOYEES AND SENIOR MANAGEMENT"
Without Trust, there is no relationship and in this socially bonding age, when relationship is non existent in the work place, job becomes not only monotonous but boring. A situation where everyone is suspicious of the other and every move is interpreted in a million different ways does not enhance cohesion.
Can you imagine a football team of 11 Players suspicious of each other's move succeeding? If it won't work in a football team, what gave you the impression it will work for your organization? Trust is a much needed ingredient in building a formidable team.
All suspicions and the desire to pitch them one against the other can be avoided by simply enforcing control measures.
We will be addressing Control measures soon
As Ernest Hemingway puts it; "The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them"
